REMODEL BEFORE AND AFTER

A note from Lynette.

I want to show you some examples of what it is that we do with a remodel to create your vision for you home. I think Before and After photos are a lot of fun.

These photos show that there is no remodel project that is too big for us to design. This was a very old mud adobe structure with an interesting history of being a schoolhouse and possibly a stagecoach stop too. It sits on top of a hill on a beautiful piece of land in Tucson horse country. Our clients wanted it restored and included in the design of their new home which required new construction as well as restoration of the mud adobe building. You can see the condition of the old original mud structure which is now the central rooms of the completed home which was designed with new wings added to it.

This formal dining room in an older contemporary Santa Fe style home was located next to a covered outdoor room so the wall was fully opened and a retracting Nana Wall all glass wall was built to hide in the new wall pocket created for it. We kept the clients large wood dining table and added fun Chippendale-adaptation chairs in a worn black paint with gold highlights. The base of an overlarge cabinet in the dining room was kept as a credenza and the top portion was moved to the outdoor room which holds a TV. A beautiful old iron chandelier and an antique oriental rug were added to finish this inviting dining room.

What a transformation to this outdated living room! The ceiling was raised and hand adzed beams were added. Antique doors on barn door rack and a stunning fireplace wall of native stone were built and the walls were plastered with integral color. The long narrow window was raised to catch a beautiful mountain view and the furnishings were a perfect finish.

The addition of a custom masonry fireplace built with mud adobe and concrete surround in place of the center doors in this ordinary wall creates a beautiful focal point for the room and anchors the seating area which is comfortably furnished with a soft old oriental rug in neutral colors and an eclectic mix of furnishings. Antique oak floor planks complete the lovely old Arizona feel of the room.

This small outdated kitchen was expanded by removing a wall into a walk in closet and raising the ceiling. The cabinets are handmade and hand carved, finished in a deep rich brown stain and the end “butler’s pantry” wall of cabinets was done in antiqued ivory paint. The stove hood is plastered to match the walls with an antique beam around the bottom. The backsplash is veneered with antique bricks and the counter is a dark leathered granite.

This outdated room became a beautiful formal dining room by replacing the sheetrock walls with mud adobe, adding new custom steel windows and a wood ceiling with beams. A pair of antique columns frame the doorway opening to create an elegant entrance.

The remodel of this 1970s living room/dining room went from cold white walls, ugly tile floors, low pony walls and popup ceiling to an open, warm and welcoming space. The low walls were removed, ceilings had updated viga beams added with plastered arched between them, the walls are plastered with integral color and the furnishing consist of an antique Spanish trunk/coffee table, comfortable sofa with antique oriental rug pillows and an antique Native American rug on the wall of the dining room.

This kitchen was at the end of a great room and consisted of old red painted cabinets with galvanized tin inserts, an oversized concrete island and an unattractive black metal stove hood. We designed rich hand made cabinets with hand carved details and built a new plastered stove hood with reclaimed wood and added a beautiful soapstone counter. The backsplash tile was hand painted, custom colored rustic patterned tile.

The remodel design of the original master bedroom which had an 8-foot flat sheetrock ceiling and bad faux painting included raising the ceiling and adding wood viga beams. The walls were plastered in integral color plaster and the floor was finished in antique chestnut planks. The design of the 4 poster bed with its geometric bedding design plays off of the antique Navajo rug on the floor.

This small, dark breakfast room was transformed by opening the wall into the living room, raising the ceiling and adding hand adzed beams, then finishing all with hand plastered integral color walls. The Native American rug upholstery gives the room it’s “kick”.

This living room in a mud adobe home was furnished with black leather upholstery and an old unattractive coffee table. We designed and furnished the room with a combination of antique armoire, a soft old oriental rug, a pair of French chairs, beautiful iron coffee table and large colorful abstract paintings.

This was a kitchenette in a guest casita that was badly outdated and unattractive. We designed country style cabinets that are finished in a worn away forest green paint and have fun detailing on the doors. We added a counter height seating space under the window which looks out into a beautiful canyon. The backsplash is terra cotta interspersed with some small colorful Mexican style tiles.

This living room had an opening into the foyer with a low cabinet built in for an old small TV. We closed that wall and designed a large built-in cabinet featuring a pair of antique bi-fold doors; this holds the large screen TV and IT equipment and looks wonderful in the room. The custom Cantera stone fireplace is an elegant focal point for the room. The oversize armoire was replaced with an abstract painting by Phil Perry and a new sectional sofa, pair of French chairs, iron Perry Luxe coffee table which were designed to accent the beautiful antique oriental rug we found for this room.

Before

After

A busy and confusing breakfast window seat in kitchen was designed and built with a new small beehive fireplace next to the dining area which was designed with surrounding shelves for books and pewter artifact displays.

Before

After

The remodel design of the den included removal of the old, tacky shelving/desk and the design and implementation of a beautiful integrated desk/bookshelf alcove which continues along the wall where the antique Navajo rug is hung. The design of this room included the antique chestnut plan flooring and ceiling beams of wood vigas.

This pass through to the kitchen in an old ranch house was updated by removing the archway and adding a wood header beam. A custom wood shutter panel on a barn door track on the kitchen side of the pass through allows the kitchen to be closed off when needed. Antique bricks were applied as the backsplash for the remodeled kitchen and a rich brown leathered granite counter was added.

From bland, outdated and unattractive this foyer was transformed with antique front and closet doors, colored plaster walls, and antique oriental rug and antique Native American beaded cradle board.

This kitchen in a mud adobe home was badly outdated but included a new Wolf stainless steel range and hood. We kept the range and hood and designed warm, medium tone wood stained cabinets accented with copper backsplash tiles and a beautiful soft green leathered granite counter. The antique wood floor gave a wonderful, aged finish to this beautiful kitchen.

This outdated sun porch became a beautiful Arizona room by adding a raised wood ceiling, antique doors on barn door tracks and an updated pass through to a new custom kitchen.

This room started as a basic square box. The mud adobe wall became the focal point of the room and the addition of an antique oriental rug with a pair of cushy contemporary sofas upholstered in chenille and a sleek copper coffee table makes it a very warm and inviting room.

Before

After

The master bedroom’s odd, small windows were designed to open up the entire long wall with a huge window with a wonderful view of the mountains and overlooks a garden and remodeled swimming pool. A fireplace was added into the design and surrounded with a hand cut, Cantera stone mantel and hearth.

This picture is of a large bathroom in a beautiful mud adobe home. We designed a drop in whirlpool tub with attractive built in towel storage cubbyholes at the end and beautiful rich wood cabinets for the double vanity. The chandelier creates elegance as well as good room lighting. There are two walk in closets off the bathroom, each of which got antique doors on a sliding barn door track. The oriental rug and contemporary painting give a good finish to the room.

The outdated master bath was remodeled to enlarge the windows and add charming mullions to create a cozy space for a copper soaking tub. The window sills were designed with old bricks and the tile is a rustic, organic stone. The floor is antique chestnut.

An outdated and unattractive laundry room was designed to create a warm and inviting interior. The cabinets are finished in a warm antiqued ecru finish and the backsplash tile is custom colored, hand painted country tile. The counters are slab stone and the floors are antique chestnut.
